MANILA, Philippines – Hundreds of bloggers, Twitter users and internet users flocked to Makati City on Saturday to celebrate the country’s first Social Media Day.
The event kicked off at the Tower One Fountain Area, Ayala Triangle in Ayala Avenue.
Simultaneous “meet-ups” were also held in Cebu, Quezon City, Iligan City, Cagayan de Oro City and Davao City.
Organizers said the gathering aims to provide a venue for the social media community to meet offline and improve online ties.
An estimated 35 million Filipinos use social media, a majority of whom are active on social networking site Facebook.
Social Media Day started in the United States back in 2009 but is now being celebrated in other countries like Australia, New Zealand and Japan. — With a report from Apples Jalandoni, ABS-CBN News
